A summer of love, where I officiated for couples here in Connecticut, and along the Hudson River in New York; a summer of love where my opening salutations were in English, Italian, Romanian, Serbian and Spanish. Thank you and congratulations to all.

And now another season is upon us, with many weddings scheduled in October, one of which is a black-tie wedding in SoHo for 200. And I've booked weddings for June and August 2011 already. Cheers, Joe

November 12, 2009 marks the one year anniversary of CT's marriage equality law. Kudos to CT. And congrats to all the couples who are coming to CT to wed from all across the country, because they aren't allowed to wed in their own home states just yet. It's time America.

So while we had a civil union on October 5, 2005, and we were
married on November 12, 2008, we have always celebrated our anniversary on the day we met, September 7, 1979. And of course, congratulations to all the wonderful couples who got married this summer in Connecticut, many of whom have been together for many, many years too. Ken and I returned to Bethlehem CT today where I officiated at the marriage of Nancy and Steve in the gazebo on the town green, where they were surrounded by family and friends. Congratulations to Nancy and Steve. Cheers!

Love and Commitment

The holiday season started early this year, when Ken and I were married on November 12 in our town hall in Washington CT. Then on December 18, I had the pleasure and honor of officiating in Bethlehem CT at the marriage of Bob and Chuck, who have been together for 46 years and whose love and commitment to each other is unsurpassed.

On December 15 we met with Peter and Jerry who are getting married on February 14. And we spoke with Heather who is planning a wedding for the late spring. And in August, Alfred and Jenny are getting married on the 1st, and Rick and Arielle on the 30th.

Kudos to CT and MA too.
In 2005 the CT Legislature enacted a civil union law for same-sex couples and in 2008 the CT Supreme Court voted in favor of marriage equality for same-sex couples. As justices of the peace since 2001 we are able to officiate at the marriages of same-sex couples now too. My partner of 29 years and I had a civil union on 10/1/05. And we were married on 11/12/08, with my parents, who have been married for 56 years, in attendance. Justice of the Peace Davyne Verstandig officiated at both our civil union and marriage.
